MANCI – Cell Dog Program
The Humane Society of Richland County is proud to partner with Mansfield Correctional Institute on the Tender Loving Dog Care Program (TLDC). Dogs will live with inmates for 2-8 weeks, and during that time, they will be taught basic obedience commands and are crate trained. Inmates are selected based on their desire to work in the program and must be a non-violent offender with a clean behavioral record. The Mansfield Correctional Institute provides this service to the Humane Society in order to give job skills to deserving inmates. Dogs who go through this program are highly sought after by potential adopters because of the high quality of care and training they receive in the TLDC program.
If you are interested in adopting a dog that is currently enrolled in this program, please apply for any of the dogs listed below. Once your application had been reviewed and approved, we will give you the contact information of the person overseeing the program at MANCI. They will set up a time with you to meet the dog you are interested in. Please feel free to contact the shelter with any questions.
Ohio Pet Fund

PetSmart Adoption Partner
The Humane Society of Richland County is happy to have PetSmart in Ontario as an adoption partner. If we feel a cat is getting over looked at the shelter, we have them go to PetSmart where they will typically have a lot more visibility. Cats adopted at PetSmart are spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccines. When a cat is adopted at PetSmart, the adoption fee is the same as it would have been at the shelter and the entire amount is then given back to the Humane Society. Please stop out there and see some of our cats. You may meet your new best friend!
Pets For Patriots
The Humane Society of Richland County is proud to partner with Pets for Patriots. This amazing organization looks to place dogs and cats with veterans for a highly discounted adoption fee along with other benefits. They have helped nearly 4,000 veterans adopt a shelter animal in need. Check out their website for more details and to see if you may be eligible.
Rascal Unit
The Humane Society of Richland County has a monthly clinic through the Rascal Unit. We do not schedule too far in advance as we reserve the spots for our shelter animals first. We will make a post on our Facebook page if and when we are scheduling for the public. The Rascal Unit does travel to other shelters, so you could also try scheduling through the Rascal Unit at locations other than ours. Everyone does scheduling differently so you would want to contact the hosting shelter. Their schedule can be found on their website. Download a complete breakdown of their pricing guide below.
RICI Pound Puppies
RICI Pound Puppies Program is our partnership With Richland Correctional Institution (RICI). The RiCI Pound Puppies Dog Program is a highly successful initiative where dogs from shelters (to include some of ours from the Humane Society of Richland are paired with inmates at RICI for obedience and socialization training. Once “graduated,” these dogs are available for adoption. This program helps shelter dogs become highly adoptable pets. All their adoptable dogs can be viewed on their Facebook page.
